Advancing the New European Bauhaus
The German Environment Agency (UBA) recently started a new research project called "Advancing the New European Bauhaus" (AdNEB), which aims to develop recommendations for urban spaces, promoting healthy, climate and environmentally friendly living. The kick-off conference for this project will take place on 15th September.
Background and Aim of the Project
The AdNEB project “Advancing the New European Bauhaus: Sustainable Mobility and Resilient Urban Spaces for a Better Quality of Life” is an in-house research project of the German Environment Agency (UBA). It is inspired by the European Commission's New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative. AdNEB aims to provide a conceptual, methodical and interdisciplinary contribution to the idea of the New European Bauhaus for urban spaces. For this, the current focus of the NEB on construction in urban areas will be expanded to additional dimensions such as green and open spaces, health and well-being, climate change adaptation, environmental justice and active and sustainable mobility. The project specifically examines how we can deal with pertinent challenges in order to adapt urban spaces to improve the quality of life.
Kick-Off Conference
The kick off conference for the AdNEB project will take place on September 15th 2022, featuring experts from the field and interesting discussions. The President of the German Environment Agency Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner as well as Ruth Reichstein (Advisory Board of the President of the European Commission) and Michela Magas (High Level Roundtable New European Bauhaus) will discuss in the opening panel the opportunities and challenges of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative to promote healthy, climate and environmentally friendly, high quality living for all.
Following a general introduction to the project AdNEB, there will be four parallel workshops focusing on urban retrofitting, climate adaptation, mobility inventions and multifunctional inner urban development.
A keynote by Prof. Dr. Harriet Bulkeley (Durham University and Utrecht University) on "Environmental Politics in the Anthropocene City” will be a further highlight (see Conference Agenda).
