ASBP Awards 2022 Winners Announced

The winners of the 4th annual ASBP Awards have been announced, following a hybrid awards ceremony on Thursday 17th February at the EDGE Showroom in London and online.

February 22, 2022

The ASBP Awards, which were launched in 2018, are regularly showcasing exemplary building projects and innovative building products, as well as forward-thinking initiatives and campaigns. This year's awards, supported by natureplus as bronze sponsor, were the most comprehensive to date. After narrowing down the longlist of 26 projects across all categories to 9 finalists, the winners hve now been announced during a hybrid event in London. Based on an open online voting a people prize was awarded in addition to the judges' award:

Project Category:

  • Judges Award: SNUG Forest Road
The Forest Road SNUG home is an offsite, custom-build, net zero-carbon home, built with the community, that challenges the idea of what a ‘house’ is. The SNUG is a two-storey 44m2 1 bedroom, 1 person home, with a small footprint to fit neatly into back gardens or leftover plots, helping provide affordable new homes and improve urban areas.
  • People's Prize: Zetland Passive House
Originally built in 1894, this Passivhaus project is intended to provide a blueprint for retrofitting the UK’s 8 million pre-1930’s, hard to treat homes. Using natural, breathable materials and reusing all the recoverable, original fabric, the project is a pioneering example of sustainable low carbon retrofit.

Product Category:

  • Judges Award: Accoy Wood
Accsys transforms fast-growing, certified sustainable wood through a proprietary acetylation process, which increases the already naturally-occurring acetyl content of wood, to produce Accoya wood. This reduces the ability to absorb water, making it more dimensionally stable and extremely durable. The result is a high performing product with sustainability credentials that exceed those of man-made, resource intensive alternatives.
  • People's Prize: Agile's Innovative Housing Solution
Agile’s innovative, rapid, housing solution is high-quality, space-compliant, low-carbon and affordable. By unlocking land that’s free and “hidden in plain sight”, they eliminate costs, putting keys in front doors for social rent, shared ownership and open market. Built using an MMC panel system and renewable materials including UK timber, each home embeds 27 tonnes of carbon.

Initiative Category

  • Judges Award: People Powered Retrofit
People Powered Retrofit is an initiative developed to offer an end-to-end owner occupier deep retrofit service in the Greater Manchester area, from advice and assessment through to design, procurement, quality assurance and evaluation. The initiative is a collaboration between research and design practice URBED and community energy organisation Carbon Co-op.
  • People's Prize: Structural Carbon Tool
In March 2021, the Institution of Structural Engineers launched the Structural Carbon Tool, an open-source Excel-based carbon estimator, developed by Elliott Wood Partnership Ltd. The purpose of the tool was to enable structural engineers from any size of company to estimate, then reduce the embodied carbon of their designs.
